My Hair is Going to Come Out...

but not because of my surgery. No, no. I am going to pull my hair out any given second now. I have waited and waited before posting this entry, because I have been hoping that I wouldn't have to.

I have been eating GREAT. I have been working out for almost TWO HOURS a day- 45 minutes or so on the elliptical machine and then 15 minutes of ab and muscle work in the morning and before bed. Sound great, right? Well, could someone pah-leeze explain to me why I have been playing ping-pong now with the same three pounds!? I lost 15 pounds in the blink of an eye right after the surgery, and now nothing. Absolutely nothing. It has been over a month and my scale sits stagnant.

After my last post about my whopping one pound loss, it showed up again on the scale this morning. I am working so hard to lose this weight, but it keeps finding me!

I am beyond frustration. What gives? I really think I am just going to start crying and not be able to stop. My dear Amy reiterated to us all how important it is NOT to compare, but I had major weight loss surgery here folks, and other bandsters are doing so well.

I have been doing my best to remain positive and stick with it, but I really needed to vent.

Not to compare here :) but from all the blogger stories I've read (I'm not banded yet) a lot of people don't loose once they start an intense workout program, which is what I'd call 2 hours a day! If you keep it up, I'm sure the pounds will be falling off in no time.

i know you are frustrated but i am sure it will start to come off again. have you talked to the nurse at Dr. Enochs' office? she might have some ideas. she is pretty good at e-mailing back if you have trouble getting her on the phone.

i go in tomorrow at 5:15am! i can't wait until we are both on the other side of this.

Have you read my blog!? SAME BOAT. That's all I gotta say about that. I work out 4 DAYS a week (started AFTER my plateau - so there goes the she-started-a-workout-she'll-maintain theory) and it's still stagnant... months later... something's gotta give eventually. I do lose .... slowly.... like half pound here and there but yeah, I was self pay and I didn't pay to lose like this dammit!!

I know this story all too well. I lost 10 lbs within 2 weeks after surgery and then the wait started. It wasn't until after my second fill (9/15) that the scale moved again. Remember that with working out comes muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. Pay more attention to how your clothes fit!

Keep your chin up and your hair alone!! :)

Okay, I will use Catherine as an example bc she is a great one. When Catherine started bootcamp, we all were like "OOOH, the weight is going to fall off", and guess what....it didnt! Probably for about 6 weeks Catherine didnt lose much according to the scale at all. She was taking her measurements though, and found that even though the scale wasnt moving, she was losing inches. After about 6 weeks, the pounds started to come off as well. If you know you are doing everything right, then stay strong! Are you meausuring? Think of the fat you are losing and replacing with muscle. Think of how you body is so damn confused with all this healthy eating and working out. You are making the right choices. the scale will move.

I agree with Amy W. Keep it up, keep the faith, and know that it WILL come off, when your body is ready to release it. Show your body who is boss, and keep up your routine. I think that our body clings to these pounds so rigorously, because it thinks that we are starving it. It WILL give it, give it time. Don't look at the scale, look at how your clothes fit. I think that we are soooo affixed to using a number on the scale to gage our success, and there are so many other ways. You are gaining muscle, losing fat, and muscle is leaner than fat, but weighs more. Keep up the good work, girl! We are PROUD of you!!!

Try to chill out. It is impossible to gain a pound of fat over night. I'm sure this is water fluctuation. It can even vary as much as 5 pounds from day to day. Try not to get upset about it. Exercise does change things too. Try watching your salt intake and remember STALL HAPPEN TO EVERYONE. You are not done losing. The weight will come off. Trust your surgery and dont weight everyday if it bothers you.
Good luck.

Ditto what Amy said!! That is so true. Take your measurements and brace yourself for about 6 weeks of a slow scale. When that's over, your body will be inches smaller all over and you'll start losing with a vengeance!

I know . . it's no fun not to see the numbers move. It drove me totally crazy, but now I see that it was SO WORTH IT to build lean muscle (which now burns more calories and makes me look lot tighter and smaller as well).

Hang in there!

Catherine

I bet it has to do with the exercise, too. Did some prescribe all that exercise for you? Unless athleticism is a major goal for you, I would say cut it down to one hour or so.

I read somewhere that nearly everyone plateaus at around the 4 week mark. I think I plateaud for 2 weeks then. It was frustrating but it did pass. Are you taking in enough calories? Protein? Drinking enough water? Hang in there!

Hey Lynn, that sounds very frustrating! Hang in there! Eating right + exercise (should) = weight/inch loss....do you have a follow up with the doc maybe they have some suggestions? Frustrating!

I think we all go through this. Your weight goes down well for the first 1-4 wks. Then you have a few wks of sucky. Then it will slowly be more regular, which is where I'm at. This too shall pass!

PLEASE HANG ON AND IN.

Youre doing everything right (and have such a lovely head of thick hair :))and the scale will suddenly drop.

it will.
