Hair Stylist Poll

Okay, you lovely people are voting on my posted poll, which I greatly appreciate- thank you. However, I would LOVE to know your point of view. If you have the time to explain/argue your case, please leave me a comment. My head is really spinning with this one. THANKS A BUNCH!

(Basically, our hair stylist does all of our hair, and in return my husband provides free care at his office and I can't figure out if it is appropriate to tip or not.)

I think it all depends on who is getting the better end of the stick. If she uses more heathcare than you get in hair styling, then I wouldn't worry about it. However if you are getting highlights and perms frequently, then I would tip. One more thing to consider: if giving her a $5 bill would make her happy, then your hair would be happy too.

I agree with Melinda--depends on how often you use her services/she uses your husband's services. Although I have to say I am an obsessive tipper--I'm always afraid someone's gonna feel shafted. So if a few bucks would soothe your conscience, go for it, but I don't think you owe it to her as long as you both are getting an equivalent value.

My thoughts are, "When in doubt, tip" but don't go crazy with the amount. Maybe $5 after she's taken care of you, and a few bucks for the other heads in the household if they go separately. Your few bucks are worth keeping the relationship on the up and up, rather than risking insulting her. PLUS, hairdressers talk. Wouldn't a little good word of mouth be nice for hubby's biz?

Ooh, I think Melinda has a good point especially if there is lots of work involved.

BTW, like the update pic of you :)

Does your stylist do it in the salon? If so she probably only receives a max of 40% of the cost of the service from her employee and she still has to pay for the products that she uses. My daughter is a stylist and when I go in.. She doesn't charge me but I still have to pay the salon the cost of the products.. and of course my tip.
