Random Thoughts and Questions

  • Why is it that clothing designers think that:
    • we want to wear clothes that look like our grandmother's tapestries?
    • we don't already demand enough attention while overweight, so they design clothes with animal prints? Not to mention, bright pinks and faux fur.
    • it will boost our self-esteems, therefore boosting their sales, by making their sizes too small forcing us up one size? Does this make any sense? I don't know about you, but I sure am not going to buy more if I am feeling like an elephant.
    • horizontal stripes are thinning. No, no people, it's VERTICAL stripes. Geesh. I don't think I have ever seen a plus-size shirt with vertical stripes. Someone needs to tell them.
    • overweight people don't want to wear what is in style. Why can't they make the same clothes that are the latest and hottest trends but just a little larger for us?
  • It appears as though my mother-in-law only contributed to my new scale because she herself wants to use it. Sure, you give me $30, and I'll pay the rest so you can use it every time you come over, I get it. There is always a motive. The "generous" thought was nice while it lasted, I was actually flattered for a wee bit of time there. Silly me.
  • I am very excited about getting my scale. I stepped on one similar to mine at BB&B the other day, and it registered a nice low number of 255. It was wrong, but it still made me feel good! :)
  • Eating apples with peanut butter before going to bed will ensure that no weight loss will be displayed on the scale the following morning. I promise. It works EVERY time.
  • Why do people have to say, "You have such a pretty face". Why can't they just say, "You look pretty tonight"?
  • Why does it bother me so much when my MIL has to touch me where she is telling me I have lost weight. *CRINGE* Hands off lady!
  • My parents are finally coming for a visit this week. I am super excited! It has been almost three months since we have seen each other. That's a long time for us.
  • I want to go downstairs and eat right now, but I am going to go to bed instead. Good night!
  • I hope you are all doing well.

Girl, I'm feeling your pain about the clothing situation--no, really, fat people like cute clothes too!!! And sorry about your mother-in-law--mine is really rather--detached. MY mom is the one who interferes. Don't even get me started about that! I love her dearly, but boy is she a buttinsky! Hang in there! YOU are beautiful, not just your face! =)

Temptation is indeed a 24/7 struggle, isn't it?

I was just told this week I had a pretty face!!! That does make it quite obivious that you are saying the rest of me is a disgrace!

Clothing just sucks. I own nothing that fits right and so I end up feeling worse about myself because I look like a frump all the time...then start to feel like one...and so on

It's the job of in-laws to make you feel uncomfortable. My Grandmother in law asked me in front of a room full of people, Why is your mom so thin now (she lost 120 pounds) and you're SO FAT???

In the UK there is just one clothing store for larger ladies (Evans). Ok, there are a few others but Evans has a complete monopoly on the situation.

They don't size things too small, they have a habit of being too generous -- which is great until you go to try a size 26 somewhere else and realise that Evans' version of size 26 is actually wayyyy too generous!

However, they do quite often go for the loud animal prints and bright colours that we don't always want to be wearing, as a larger person !!

I know this may sound hard to believe, but there are clothes out there that will fit you AND are stylish. My husband and I sometimes watch the show, "What Not to Wear". Usually, after the show is over, I start to bitch and moan, "Oh, yeah, it's easy for them to find clothes because they're shopping in NY. Nothing fits me. I look like a slob. My body type is weird." Blah, blah, and a big blah...excuse city! My husband was sick of my complaining, as he is a positive person by nature, and said, "I BET you $10.00 that I can take you to our local mall and find an outfit that makes you look great!" I laughed, yup, I really did! "You're on buddy," I thought to myself. "I'll take that 10 bucks!"

Well, to make a long story short. I tried on a lot of clothes, and we were in and out of a lot of stores but he found a dress for me that looked fantastic. I couldn't believe it when I looked into the mirror. Of course he found the perfect shoes to go with it too!

He won the ten dollars but he taught me a very valuable lesson.

You're right in your assessment about most clothing for overweight women...but nice clothing is out there...we just have to dig a little deeper!

P.S. And yes, horizontal stripes are ridiculous! :o)

Have a great day!

these points made me laugh! I can't wait to get into normal clothes because so many of the plus clothes are just awful ........I have a limited wardrobe for that reason

Hope you are having a happy day!

Nice clothes are harder to find when you're plus sized, but they are possible. You just have to be patient and try on a lot of things.

On the other hand, I like bright colors. Any day of the week, I'm apt to look like an easter egg with one color top and a different colored bottom... Torrid has some great clothes for larger ladies, especially if what you're looking for is cute "club wear" type clothing... I agree that horizontal stripes are Right Out!

Oh, the "pretty face" commment. I hate it. I was talking about this to a thin, beautiful friend of mine and she just didn't get why I would be insulted that someone told me I had a pretty face. So I asked her, "Does anyone ever tell you you have a pretty face? Or do they just tell you you are pretty." Then she got it. Well, she got it as much as the genetic lovechild of Barbie and Paris Hilton can.
