Today was the day that I had to go for all of my pre-op testing. Because the hospital is so close to my house, I was afraid that I would see someone I knew, who would then let the questions rip. I was REALLY hoping to avoid stuttering an excuse for my beinging at the hospital for testing.
I arrived at 8:30- registration- check! All sent smooth.
At 8:50- lab work and EKG- check! Smooth sailing.
At 9:00- Ultrasound- check! Not so smooth.
When the girl called me back her face looked familiar, but I wasn't going to go there, you know? BUT, she did. When she laid me on the table, she actually asked me why I was having pre-op tests. I replied that I was considering the lap band procedure. THEN she says, "I know you!". Gah-Rate. She was my husband's best friend's wife's best friend. Did you follow that? So basically the one group of people that I definitely don't want finding out about my surgery now has a direct information source.
After that little hiccup, the barium swallow/upper GI and x-rays all went smoothly. No more friends, thank GOD!

Totally none of her business! The hospital I work for is also the hospital I had my surgery at..and not only were there people I knew at every corner, some of those people got to see some of my most precious bits during surgery I am sure! Good times!
I know it's easier said than done, but ignore what anyone thinks they know. It's all YOUR business and no one else's. And if that person says anything, it's violating confidentiality.

oh me too - I work at the hospital where I had my surgery done - way too many people I know but oh well!
My fill appointments are in a hospital where some of my family members work. It is huge, but still, I am worried that a) I will run into one, or b) they could access my records somehow. I haven't seen anyone yet, so there should be no cause for record snooping at this point (I hope). Did I mention that my sister, who would tell the entire fam for sure, works for the same hospital group? If my records are accessible to the hospital at large, I'm POSITIVE she could see them. Ugh!
Oh, I hope she keeps your confidence. Totally different, but one time when I had a baby the nurse was in my class at church. It was embarassing. . .
I hope it all goes well.
Remember patient confidentiality? She BETTER! Good luck...

Yeah I work for a pharmacy and that is a HIPPA violation if she says ANYTHING. So I'd stay mum and if she opens her mouth you could threaten to get her fired if she says anything else. Or if you're super concerned you could approach her and say "Listen it's kinda ackward you know that I'm having surgery. I'm not planning on telling anyone. With HIPPA and all, you're going to keep it to yourself, right?" haha! Corner her!
Oh I should add in this :) Remember I posted above that I work in the hospital where it was done - the other day at lunch my friend who works in surgery called me over and I sat at the table with one of the surgery teams - One of the women was my op nurse - I said something about "I bet I look better then the last time you saw me" and she looke puzzled - she said "honestly I don't pay attention to who is on the table"... that was reassuring to me in a way :) I still don't love it but what can ya do!
